After a brilliant Concepción Trophy, done in April as the official Candidate Event, a long preparation and team work of the best quality made the world organization of automobile sports confirmed that Biobío Region’s capital and RallyMobil will host the sixth round of World Rally Championship.
WRC competitiveness, audience and importance is only comparable to Formula 1. Every year, throughout its 13 rounds, it is has an audience range of more than 4.1 million of spectators who attend the event, where the best squads and drivers of the world directly share with the fans.
In 2017, TV WRC audience exceeded a number of 850 million people, who watched enjoying more than 13.500 broadcast hours. Views of the competition on Youtube reached 25 million, with 2.5 million fans on Facebook. A first level showcase for Concepción, Chile and RallyMobil.
“I can inform you deeply satisfied that Oliver Ciesla (WRC Promoter Managing Director) has just come to tell us that, in the last 15 minutes, the FIA proclaimed Chile has a date of the WRC Calendar. At 3:05 PM we hugged, glad and excited. Everyone who enjoy and participate of RallyMobil are part of this process, this project, so now, let’s look at this with different eyes, to take forward this challenge,” Felipe Horta (RallyMobil Senior Producer), leader agent in bringing a World Championship round to our country, claimed at the FIA headquarters in Paris
The formal confirmation of Concepción as a WRC round took place in the FIA offices of Paris. A RallyMobil delegation attended, headed by Felipe Horta, as a team, to receive the team.
“The magnitude of a WRC round meets a social phenomenon, creates lots of interest among the people of different countries about attending an event of such kind. It’s completely free, people live the rally experience on the road, in the Service Parks, with the drivers, co-drivers and teams. It’s an enormous sports celebration, and no doubt the city of Concepción fulfills all of the attributes to deliver a World Championship round within a standard of absolute excellence. Know we shall devote ourselves to hard work to pull off a great project in the month of May, 2019,” Felipe Horta concluded.
The WRC Concepción round will take place between May 9 and 12 of next year, after Argentina and prior to Portugal. Our country will then feature a double competition, where our stars’ talents will be displayed: Jorge Martínez, Cristóbal Vidaurre and Francisco “Chaleco” López, among others, together with the world’s maximum exponents, such as the Belgian Thierry Neuville, Finn Jari-Matti Latvala, Estonian Ott Tänak and the French Sébastien Ogier and Sébastien Loeb; in other words, the world’s rally elite.
Oliver Ciesla, explained: “It’s not about whether having Chile or Japan, it’s just that we couldn’t have one more round next year. The agreement with the promoters stands for three years, since the investments are substantial and we need at least one deadline in order to make things work.”
The efforts to achieve this historic event began in 2016, when the organizers of RallyMobil decided to apply for a World Championship round.
