A few hours are left before RallyMobil Championship’s fifth round begins in Curicó. It will go across 606.90 km, out of which 172.08 will make up special stages. The local driver, Francisco “Chaleco” López wants to seize the race.
Ever since 2012, no rally has been disputed in the land were the national idol was born, the Maule Region. This is what makes this race a very special one for the ex cross country rally world champion and current R2 category champion, which he left to join the highest category: R5.
“It was an important step to move to R5, where I’m getting used to the machine’s power and to the new all-wheel drive. I’m now in a process that has been a complex one, but I intend to turn things around while in Curicó, by doing my best on both days of the race to move further on the standings,” the Peugeot Sport Chile/Copec Cooper Tires representative explained.
This fift round of the championship is very significant for López as it will be carried out in Curicó, being the third trial at the roads near to this city, well known for its cakes.
“It will be very encouraging to start at Curicó´s Main Square on Friday, where I lived so many experiences during my childhood and adolescence, since me and my school mates and friends used to hang out there. I hope to live up to the people’s expectations by getting to the finish line on Sunday,” Chaleco López said.
Regarding the trial, rain is expected for this Friday, which shall give the competition a particular mood. “If it rains too much, the race will feature the competitors’ technical skills and will force them to keep the car sticked to the ground, for which I’m ready. Regarding the Peugeot 208, it’s in perfect condition, set up to finish on both days,” Francisco López concluded.
The race consists of 12 special stages, with a total of 172.08 km, within which three will be at Condell Hill, on an asphalt area of 1,900 mts, at the same floors where Chaleco used to play when he went to school at the foot of the hill.
It all starts on Friday 31 at 7:30PM, in Curicó´s Main Square. On Saturday, the first race will be between 9:00AM and 3:00PM, and on Sunday it will be held at the exact same times.
