Francisco”Chaleco” López (Peugeot 208) did very well during the first leg of RallyMobil Championship’s seventh round, in Pichilemu, getting the seventh place at a very fast race, dominated by Alberto Heller.
While the last day of the O’Higgins Region rally is still to be developed, the driver from Curicó has gone from the least to the most at the fastest and strongest series of the contest, R5. After reaching victory in R2, in 2017, López is on his way towards 2019 as one of the main figures of the championship that shall host a round for World Rally Championship.
“It’s been a season of learning at the fastest category. Today we were at a strong pace and close to the leading teams, which leaves me and my co-driver Nicolás Levalle much satisfied,” Chaleco López pointed out after driving for 88.63 kilometers of special stages under a bright sun and high winds.
The first position was for Alberto Heller with 45 minutes 21 seconds and 5 tenths, López crossed the finish line 1 minute and 24 seconds away from the winner, clasping the chance of moving forward on Sunday, which will be very different from Saturday.
“We’ll face narrower and more polished roads with which I’m more comfortable. The idea is to be quick, watch the machine and be constant as we are finishing the year,” the Peugeot Sport Chile/Copec Cooper Tires Team representative comments.
To fulfill the target of moving ahead on the standingboard, López will have to trust on the tyres set-up, mixing soft and intermediate ones, and using hard ones according to the day’s conditions, since the compounds the R5 duos are allowed to use are three.
This Sunday the race provides for 62.22 kilometers of special stages, of a total of 188.91, divided into six fast sections between 8:40 AM and 15:17 PM.
